‘Take Back the Capital’: Trump Vows Sweeping Action on D.C. Crime, Homelessness

On Aug. 10, President Trump said he will hold a press conference at the White House the following day to unveil a set of measures aimed at making the nation’s capital “safer and more beautiful than ever.”

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Mr. Trump said all homeless individuals would be immediately relocated from the downtown area, with the government providing accommodations “far from the city’s core.” Those engaged in criminal activity, he added, would be sent directly to jail.

The president pledged that the initiative would be carried out “very quickly” and likened it to strict enforcement measures previously implemented at the southern border. He claimed that in recent months, illegal border crossings had been reduced from “millions to zero.”

Calling on officials to “be ready,” Mr. Trump said the coming crackdown would not be “polite” and was intended to “take back the capital.” His post included several photographs showing tent encampments in city parks, illustrating how some public green spaces have been occupied by the homeless.
