Two American tourists died in separate drowning incidents on Friday, August 15, at Celebration Key, Carnival Cruise Line’s new private resort in the Bahamas. The incidents occurred within a three-hour span and involved a man and a woman, both in their 70s, according to local authorities.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) reported that the first incident took place just before noon, when a 79-year-old man was found unresponsive while snorkeling at a beach. A lifeguard pulled him from the water and administered CPR, but he was later pronounced dead by a medical professional.
Just a few hours later, around 2:30 p.m., a 74-year-old woman was discovered unresponsive in a resort swimming pool. A lifeguard also performed CPR, but she too was pronounced dead. Both victims were passengers on separate Carnival cruise ships—one on the Mardi Gras and the other on the Carnival Elation.
Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed the incidents, stating that its lifeguards and medical team responded promptly in both emergencies. The company expressed its condolences to the families and noted that its Care Team is providing assistance. The RBPF is currently investigating the circumstances of both deaths, and autopsies are scheduled to determine the exact causes.
