U.S. Powerball Jackpot Reaches $1.787 Billion, Second-Largest in History

The US Powerball lottery website announced on the 7th that a $1.787 billion jackpot was won, with two winners sharing the prize. This is the second-largest jackpot in US lottery history.

According to US media reports, the two winners are from Missouri and Texas respectively, and their specific identities have not been disclosed. Jackpot winners have two options: to receive a one-time payment of $410.3 million or an annuity of $893.5 million over 30 years. The above amounts are pre-tax figures.

The drawing took place on the evening of the 6th, marking the 42nd drawing since someone won the jackpot on May 31st, setting a record for the longest period without a jackpot winner in Powerball history.

Powerball tickets cost $2 each. Players must select 5 numbers from white balls numbered 1 to 69, and 1 number from red balls numbered 1 to 26. If all 6 selected numbers match the drawn numbers, they win the jackpot. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.

The largest Powerball and US lottery jackpot in history was $2.04 billion and was won by a single winner in California in November 2022.
