Court Upholds $83.3 Million Verdict Against Trump in Carroll Defamation Case

On the 8th local time, a U.S. appeals court announced that it would uphold the ruling in the Carroll v. Trump defamation case, and Trump still needs to pay $83.3 million in damages.

In 2019, female writer Carroll accused Trump of sexual assault against her in the 1990s. Trump denied and publicly called her accusation a “hoax,” leading to a defamation lawsuit. In January 2024, a New York federal jury ruled in the case and ordered Trump to pay Carroll $83.3 million in damages. In March of that year, Trump appealed the massive damages ruling, and now the U.S. appeals court has upheld the original verdict.
