A sequel to the blockbuster film Ano Hana ga Saku Oka de, Kimi to Mata Deaetara. (I Will Meet You Again on the Hill of the Flowers), which grossed over ¥4.5 billion, has been announced for a 2026 release. The new film is titled Ano Hoshi ga Furu Oka de, Kimi to Mata Deaitai. (I Will Meet You Again on the Hill of Falling Stars).
The surprise announcement was made at a “Cinema Concert & Talk Show” event in Tokyo on August 8. The event, held in celebration of the first television broadcast of the film, featured lead actors Haruka Fukuhara and Koji Mizukami, along with Kentaro Ito, Hayato Onozuka, and the original author, Natsue Shiomi. The cast and author revealed the sequel’s production to an audience of 4,600 fans.
The sequel, like its predecessor, is based on a novel by Natsue Shiomi. The book was written immediately after the conclusion of the first story, continuing the narrative of characters Yuri and Akira. The original film was broadcast on television for the first time on “Friday Road Show” on August 8, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, and received a significant response.
