China Reclaims Top Position as Germany’s Largest Trading Partner

Preliminary statistics from Germany show that in the first eight months of 2025, China has surpassed the United States to once again become Germany’s largest trading partner. According to Reuters’ calculations, Germany’s total imports and exports with China from January to August this year reached 163.4 billion euros, while its trade volume with the United States was 162.8 billion euros. In 2024, the United States had overtaken China to become Germany’s largest trading partner. However, as the U.S. implemented measures such as imposing tariffs, the trade landscape has shifted again this year. In the first eight months of this year, German exports to the U.S. decreased by 7.4% year-on-year to 99.6 billion euros. In August, German exports to the U.S. saw a significant year-on-year drop of 23.5%.
