Apple Maps to Embed Ads, Accelerating Expansion of iOS Ad Ecosystem

According to renowned Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman in his latest ‘Power On’ newsletter, Apple is accelerating its plan to deploy advertisements within its iOS system, with an ad system expected to be introduced in the Apple Maps application as early as next year. The new plan will allow businesses in industries such as dining to pay for more prominent display positions for their store information in map search results.

It is reported that the advertising model for Apple Maps will reference the existing ‘Search Ads’ mechanism in the App Store, where companies can bid for promotion slots based on user search keywords, enabling targeted advertising. The report noted that Apple will focus on user experience in its design, with the ad interface expected to be simpler and more user-friendly than competitors like Google, while utilizing AI technology to optimize the relevance of the placements, enhancing the utility and specificity of the results.

Although Apple attempts to balance ad placement and user experience through technological means, Gurman also pointed out that this move might cause concern among some users about ads intruding into native applications, potentially triggering a consumer backlash.
