Mummified Body of Man Missing for 28 Years Emerges from Melting Pakistan Glacier

A remarkable discovery in northern Pakistan has brought closure to a decades-old mystery, as the remarkably preserved body of a man who vanished in 1997 was found in a melting glacier
. The body was discovered in the remote Kohistan region, specifically near the edge of the shrinking Lady Meadows glacier, also referred to as the “Lady Valley” glacier.

The discovery was made by local residents, including a shepherd who reportedly found the body in an astonishing state of preservation. Initial reports indicate the body, along with the man’s clothing, was largely intact, described as being in a mummified or “almost perfectly preserved” condition
. Authorities have confirmed the identity of the deceased as 31-year-old Naseeruddin (also spelled Nasiruddin).

Police and family members state that Naseeruddin disappeared in June 1997 after falling into a deep glacier crevasse during a snowstorm while traveling, reportedly on horseback in the Supat Valley
. Some accounts mention he had fled to the mountains with his brother following a village dispute at the time of his disappearance. The gradual retreat of the glacier due to warming temperatures ultimately led to the body’s re-emergence nearly 28 years later, a phenomenon increasingly observed in mountainous regions worldwide.
