Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk proposed a climate intervention scheme on a social media platform: to construct a “Space-Based Solar Radiation Management (SRM)” system by deploying a large-scale satellite constellation in Earth’s outer layers. This system would reflect a portion of the sun’s light and lower the Earth’s surface temperature.
This is not the first time Musk has ventured into the realm of climate intervention. His company, SpaceX’s “Starlink” program, has already launched over 6,000 satellites, providing a ready-made infrastructure for space-based SRM. Furthermore, Tesla’s solar energy business and energy storage technology are consistent with his climate philosophy.
