PSG Wins UEFA Super Cup in Dramatic Penalty Shootout

In a thrilling and dramatic encounter, Paris Saint-Germain staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Tottenham Hotspur in a penalty shootout, securing their first-ever UEFA Super Cup title. The match, held at Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy, saw PSG overturn a two-goal deficit in the final minutes of normal time.

Tottenham, the Europa League winners, appeared to be cruising to victory, with goals from defenders Micky van de Ven in the 39th minute and new club captain Cristian Romero in the 48th minute giving them a commanding lead. The London club looked the sharper of the two sides for much of the game, creating more chances and effectively stifling the Champions League winners.

However, PSG, who were returning to action after a lengthy break, found a new gear in the closing stages. Substitutes made the difference, with Lee Kang-in firing home a low shot in the 85th minute to pull one back for the French champions. The equalizer came deep into stoppage time when Gonçalo Ramos headed in a cross from Ousmane Dembélé in the 94th minute, forcing the game into a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, PSG recovered from an early miss by Vitinha to convert their next four kicks. Tottenham’s hopes were dashed when Micky van de Ven and Mathys Tel failed to convert their penalties, allowing Nuno Mendes to score the winning spot-kick and seal a memorable victory for PSG. This win marks the fifth trophy of 2025 for the Parisian club.
