Sony Announces PlayStation 5 Price Increase in the U.S.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced on Wednesday that it will raise the price of all PlayStation 5 console models in the United States. The price hike, which takes effect on Thursday, August 21, is attributed to a “challenging economic environment” and affects the standard, Digital Edition, and PS5 Pro consoles.

The standard PlayStation 5 will see its price rise by $50, from $499.99 to $549.99. Similarly, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will increase from $449.99 to $499.99. The recently introduced PS5 Pro model will also see a $50 jump, bringing its price to $749.99 from $699.99. The company specified that prices for PlayStation 5 accessories, such as controllers and headsets, will remain unchanged.

This move makes the U.S. one of the last major markets to experience a PS5 price increase. Earlier this year, Sony had already raised console prices in international regions including the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. While Sony’s official statement cited broad economic challenges, industry speculation points to the impact of recent U.S. tariffs on imported goods, which have also prompted similar price adjustments by rival console makers like Microsoft.
