Israeli Airstrikes Target Houthi Military Sites in Yemen

Israeli airstrikes on military targets in Yemen on Saturday resulted in four deaths and 67 injuries, according to the Houthi-controlled health ministry.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attacks, stating they struck Houthi military sites in and around Sana’a, Yemen’s capital. The IDF specified that the targets included a military base within the presidential palace compound, a power plant, and a fuel storage depot, all of which were reportedly used for Houthi military operations. The strikes were a direct response to what the IDF described as “repeated attacks” by the Houthis against Israel and its civilians, including recent launches of surface-to-surface missiles and drones. The Israeli military vowed to continue a “resolute response” to these persistent threats and to neutralize any ongoing dangers to its citizens.

According to Yemen’s Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah television, Israeli warplanes targeted multiple locations in Sana’a, including facilities belonging to the oil company and a power station. The strikes hit targets in the city’s central, southern, and southwestern areas. A Houthi military officer claimed that air defense forces “successfully intercepted most of the Israeli warplanes involved in the aggression, forcing them to withdraw.”

Since the outbreak of the latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October 2023, the Houthis have launched attacks on Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The group has also repeatedly used missiles and drones to strike targets inside Israel, while Israel has conducted multiple airstrikes on Houthi-controlled territories.
