A magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka. According to the official measurement by the China Earthquake Networks Center, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred at 02:58 on September 19 off the east coast of Kamchatka, with a focal depth of 20 kilometers. The epicenter was located at latitude 53.10 degrees north and longitude 160.60 degrees east. The average altitude within 5 kilometers of the epicenter is approximately -3,878 meters.

According to the quick report catalog of the China Earthquake Networks Center, there have been 27 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above within 200 kilometers of the epicenter in the past 5 years. The largest earthquake was a magnitude 8.7 that occurred in the far sea off the east coast of Kamchatka on July 30, 2025 (82 kilometers from this epicenter).
