On October 8 local time, former FBI Director James Comey appeared in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, for the first time and pleaded not guilty to two federal charges of “false statements” and “obstruction of Congress.”
The judge then announced that Comey’s formal trial is scheduled for January 5, 2026.
Comey served as Director of the FBI from 2013 to 2017. In 2016, after Trump won the presidential election, Comey was in charge of investigating whether Trump’s campaign team conspired with Russia to interfere in the US election. In 2017, Comey was fired by Trump. On September 25 of this year, Comey was indicted on charges of “false statements” and “obstruction of Congress.”
