Social media site X will completely stop using the Twitter.com domain; users with bound passkeys must rebind

Elon Musk’s social media website X (formerly Twitter) has announced it will completely retire the old domain Twitter.com, which was the main domain in the Twitter era and has been set to automatically redirect to X.com since the rebranding.

Retiring the old domain means users will no longer be able to access the original content and data through it. For instance, early links saved by users with the Twitter.com address will no longer be directly accessible, and users will need to change ‘Twitter’ to ‘X’.

This adjustment also includes a mandatory action for some users: rebind passkeys. According to the X Safety team, because the old domain is being retired, users must rebind their passkeys to make them applicable only to X.com. Failure to unbind and rebind will affect account login afterward. Users can, of course, choose to unbind and replace the method with 2FA verification.
