“People’s Daily” published a signed article by LeBron James titled “Basketball is a Bridge That Connects Us” on September 8, 2025. James had just completed his personal China tour.
The original text is as follows:
Soon, I will begin my 23rd NBA season. I’ve worn the number 23 jersey for most of my career, and it’s a number that holds special meaning for me. Before this special season begins, I have returned to China once again to embark on the next journey with the fans here.
This is my 15th career China tour. Every time I come here, my family and I are welcomed with great enthusiasm. I’m deeply moved by the warmth and friendliness of my Chinese friends, and all I can do is give my all in every game to express my gratitude to everyone.
Basketball is not just a sport; it’s a bridge that connects us, with passion flowing in our hearts. Thirteen years ago, I had a brief exchange with Chinese college basketball player Niu Ziwei. Today, she has become a teacher and a mother of two. During this trip to China, I met her and her family, and while I feel deeply honored, I also feel a greater sense of responsibility to promote sports exchange. I have three children myself, and I深知 basketball can inspire generations to pursue their dreams. Seeing so many young people in China who love basketball, I hope I can contribute to the development of basketball in China.
The basketball atmosphere in China has always been a pleasant surprise. There are many well-known basketball players here, and many excellent young players are emerging. In Chengdu, Sichuan, I participated in a training session with the Chinese national youth team. I shared my experience with them: take every training session seriously, the harder you practice in training, the more composed you’ll be in games. Many young people ask me how to play basketball well? I think there are three key factors—determination, dedication, and love. If you love basketball, are determined, and devote yourself completely to it, you will surely reap rewards.
I love basketball, and basketball inspires me. Although I’m almost 41 years old, age is just a number. As long as I’m still playing basketball and able to compete, I will find ways to be better. I am very strict with myself, and I want to keep creating new achievements and strive to be the best player I can be.
