According to media reports, Turkish President Erdogan was “forced to give way” while attending the United Nations General Assembly in the United States, as he was stopped on the roadside to wait for U.S. President Trump’s motorcade to pass through a New York street.
The Associated Press reported that video footage showed police preventing crowds from crossing the street, and Erdogan was also forced to wait on the roadside with his bodyguards nearby.
The day before, French President Macron had encountered a similar predicament, when New York police stopped him and “forced” him to wait on the street so that Trump’s security motorcade could pass. At the time, Macron called Trump. Macron said on the phone, “Guess what? I’m currently waiting on the street because I have to make way for you.”
The Daily Mail reported that Erdogan’s reaction was not as “calm” as Macron’s, and he looked visibly displeased as he left the United Nations headquarters.
