Recently, the Brazilian indoor football world has been plunged into grief after 31-year-old goalkeeper Antonio Edson dos Santos Souza, nicknamed “Picu,” tragically passed away during a regional match. According to media reports, after Picu saved a crucial penalty with his chest, he stood up and took a few steps, seemingly preparing to celebrate with teammates, when he suddenly collapsed in front of them. The scene left players, referees, and spectators in shock. Medical personnel immediately rushed to provide assistance and transported him to a nearby hospital. However, a few hours later, Picu was pronounced dead. The cause of death was preliminarily determined to be a cerebrovascular accident, though an official conclusion has not yet been released.

The Brazilian Indoor Football Federation expressed deep sorrow over the player’s death, stating: “We are deeply saddened by the death of Antonio Edson dos Santos Souza, an athlete who built his career with dedication, talent, and team spirit. On and off the field, he will always be a role model and a special presence in our hearts.”
On the day of the incident, the organizers suspended the match as a sign of mourning.
