The Danish government plans to ban children under 15 from using social media. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told the parliament, “Smartphones and social media are stealing children’s childhoods, and we have unleashed a monster,” she pointed out that almost all Danish seventh-grade students (13 or 14 years old) own smartphones. “I hope the members present will help strengthen the law to better protect Danish children.” She did not reveal the specific details of the social media ban, and there is no related bill in the government’s legislative plan for the next parliamentary term.
